Letter re: Special Congregational Meeting June 25
Dear Trinity Member:
I am pleased to invite you to attend a Special Congregational Meeting on June 25th at 10:15 AM (immediately following our 9:00 AM service). The purpose of this meeting will be for the congregation to vote on extending a call to the Reverend Christopher Naig and approve the initial annual compensation of the pastor. Pastor Chris (as he prefers to be called) is highly recommended by our Call Committee and by the Church Council. We believe that God is guiding him to be our faith leader here at Trinity.
Leading up to the congregational meeting, we will be holding two information sessions for you to learn more about the call process, Pastor Chris and his family. At these meetings, we’ll detail the pastor’s unique gifts, background, and experience and how they match to what Trinity identified as its needs in our Ministry Site Profile. We also managed to make a short video of Pastor Chris during his brief visit to St Louis this past week. We will show this video and make it available on the secure TLC Data page of www.YouMatterToGod.org for you to hear him in his own words. We hope all of you will have a chance to join us either June 15th at 6:30 PM or June 18th at 10:15 AM.
Remember that our candidate’s home congregation is not aware that he is considering a move. While he is not from the St Louis area and it is unlikely that we breach their confidence, please remain conscious of this and respect his desire to communicate the news personally.
I would be remiss if I did not recognize the great work of our Call committee. This group, chaired by Dave Luethy, consisted of Kathie Haferkamp, Dan Klug, Heather Little, Fred Meyland-Smith, and Christie Tietjen. They represented all of us in finalizing our ministry profile, screening candidates, conducting interviews, and a number of other activities needed to discern Trinity’s next pastor. Thank you all for serving.
There is still much work to do. We will need everyone’s help to continue moving us forward and fulfilling God’s mission for us. Please let me or any member of Council know if you have questions or ideas as we plan the next steps of transitioning our pastoral leadership. Thanks again for all you do for Trinity.
Yours in Christ,
Todd Maloy

Call Committee Update

Call Committee Update
Trinity Members,
Two months have passed since our last Call Committee update to the congregation at the Annual Meeting. As was mentioned at that meeting, we are in the interviewing phase of the call process, talking with candidates that we receive from the Central States Synod staff. We have had interviews with multiple candidates, in some cases multiple discussions with certain candidates. The Call Committee continues to be optimistic, and believes that God is working through these candidates toward an outcome in alignment with God’s plans for Trinity.
The near-term steps in the process can be summarized as follows:
If/when the Call Committee settles on a preferred candidate, and he/she indicates that they would be willing to commit to coming to Trinity, the Call Committee will make a recommendation to the Trinity Council.
The Trinity Council will then evaluate the recommendation, and if they agree will arrange a visit to Trinity for the candidate in order for the congregation to get a chance to meet him/her.
If after that visit all still looks favorable, the Trinity Council will schedule a congregation meeting to vote on extending a call to that candidate.
Once the candidate formally accepts that Call, he/she will work out a transition date with their current congregation and Trinity.
As you can see, this process takes time. UCLA basketball coach John Wooden used the expression “Be quick, but don’t hurry.” The Call Committee is as anxious as anyone to move this along. However, even if all proceeds well with someone on our current slate, you can add up the time required for each of the steps above and see that we are still several months away from completing this process.
We appreciate your patience and prayers and will keep you all informed as things move forward.
